Boatstogo sent me a transom wheel tube prototype for me to try
Hello everyone! Boatstogo "alnk.to/2jM9pbC" contacted me recently, asking if I was willing to try out an experimental transom wheels tube that only uses 1 pin instead of 2. I obviously agreed, I love this stuff. Anyway, the tubes are supposes to allow you to use just one pin and be able to bring up and down the wheels without having to remove the pin at all. In this video you'll see that they got the right idea, only needing a few corrections to make it viable. I like their innovation, all while maintaining quality and affordability in mind. Although these tubes are not currently in production, it would eventually be once they are tuned.

    Thank you for all the great content Erick. I'm an apartment dweller in the communist state of California. I've owned several boats in the pasts, but with my current living situation I'm unable to park a trailer anywhere. I just purchased my first SIB, super excited to get back on the water. Out of curiosity, do you know if it's possible store a 9.8 Tohatsu 4 stroke on its side with a hydrofoil installed?

    • @ErickMartinSucre
      @ErickMartinSucre 8 годин тому

      Yes, it can be stored on its side. Just be sure to lay it down gently. I usually placed something on the bottom fun that would elevate the outboard a bit, keeping the hydrofoil fin above ground.

      Thank you Erick 👍 I appreciate your time. You're the GOAT. I preordered the Saturn 11' Heavy Duty Boat XHD330. I'm honestly a little concerned with the overall weight of 140ish pounds. It's a little above your recommended 100ish pound limit from your other video, but I'm hoping once I'm on the water with 2 passengers and gear it will justify the additional weight. I'm 37 in reasonably decent shape, I should be able to man handle the boat with the aid of a hand cart. I own a truck as well, I'm hoping that will minimize the "pain" of transporting. I'm currently shopping around for a 9.8 Tohatsu 4 stroke. I was initially leaning towards a 6hp, but I think the extra power of the 9.8 will be the best option for my circumstances.

      @@Criticaldrinker That is awesome, thank you! As for the weight, just transport the airdeck floor separately from the boat. This should reduce the weight by 20 pounds or so. You can always install the floor when you're ready to put it together at the dock. The 9.8 Tohatsu is epic! I owned it for about a year and the sold it, I needed the money at the time. Recently I got myself a Hangkai 12hp, which is a direct clone to the Tohatsu 9.8hp 2-stroke outboard.

    I'd look into a longer bar to increase wheel clearance. For wheels up mode, hold down straps of some sort could provide tension, less rattle, and position assurance during rough rides. The slot proto will make the transition from wheels up to down modes a lot easier. Nice!

  • @boatsandoutboards9070

    Mine already has only one pin , not two... It works, but I don't like this design : takes too much space in the car, takes time to put on and off, puts extra weight on the transom, and air valves on the pneumatic tires fail, makes vibration sound etc. I think these wheels should be built using some sort of lightweight durable plastic. Like the original Lego toys... those last forever. Combined with lightweight aluminum bars.

    • @boatsandoutboards9070

    1. EXCELLENT design. 2. EXCELLENT workmanship. 3. EXCELLENT assembly. 4. EXCELLENT materials used. 5. EXCELLENT price of $35 online with free shipping from Home Depot. 6. EXTREMELY comfortable when sitting in the chair. And I made the seat more comfortable to sit in by taking a piece of 1/2 inch thick five ply plywood board and cutting it 10 inches X 16.5 inches and placed it on top of the seat of the chair. And when I first sat in it to test it out just for 20 seconds I ended up sitting in that chair for a whole 10 minutes because of how comfortable and well-balanced my body was being supported. I am not a salesman BUT you will NOT be disappointed by getting one of their chairs! But, again, I strongly suggest placing a cut board on top of the seat of the chair. Also, when you get the chair do NOT tighten up the rather loose rope knots on the chair. They are left loose like that so that when you sit in the chair all of the different rope knots tighten up just perfectly! Also, the manufacturer stated the weight limit is a 250 pound person. So if a 250 pound person sits down on the chair very hard it will cause an additional approximate 50 pounds weight bringing the total weight surge to 300 pounds. BUT, don't worry about the chair breaking because the manufacturer cleverly stated a maximum weight limit of 250 pounds. BUT the chair will easily hold at least 300 pounds and possibly more. And, to prove that works, I let my 240 pound friend sit very hard in the chair which caused an additional approximate 50 pounds weight surge bringing the total weight to over 300 pounds. Also, to help make this chair last for 20 or 30 years do this: 1. Get a small can of urethane satin varnish and patiently put at least two coats on all of the wood sections. This will keep them clean and keep water from getting into them and robbing the wood. 2. Get a spray can of fabric protector and apply two coats on all of the cloth surfaces but NOT on the rope. 3. Do NOT leave the chair sitting in strong direct sunlight all day long. It WILL eventually cause all the materials to start breaking down because that's what happens if left in the sunlight for hundreds and hundreds of hours. Reply

    Nice video so thanks! I'm adding this kayak to my fleet. I have their 420 Ocean Pro and it's built like a tank with the same high end materials as this one. Saturn does not cut corners on build quality. This kayak can also be used as a stand up fishing platform.

      The 1 reason why I like Saturn is because they make good quality inflatables at affordable prices. Similar brands can coat 2 or 3 times more.

    I've owned 3 boats all for fishing, an Alumacraft T14v with a 15HP Evinrude, an Alumacraft Fisherman 160 with a 25hp Yamaha, and a Lund Fury 1625XL with a 40HP Merc. All were great to me, especially on Canadian camping/fishing trips and on a manual lift for our local lakes but I really don't have the room anymore being an RV owner. I am really thinking one of these Cat style inflatables would be just perfect for occasional use. Looks fun and stable!

    Eric another qs pls, do you have any video that shows how to pull tube on inflatable please? Saturn said you cant attach to transom but need to use d rings, but the question is where to attach them. What would be the location point. Any info would appreciate!

    • @ErickMartinSucre
      @ErickMartinSucre 17 днів тому

      1st, in order to have enough power to pull a tube, the boat and you, you'll need at least 20hp. Then you have to consider the amount of force being applied to the transom by the motor and pulling the tube that could cause a failure. I do not recommend you do it. On a standard boat it's easy, but not on an inflatable.

    Im trying to decide between sd365 and sd385, i fish mostly solo, but once in a while 1 or 2 more people would join for fishing and crabbing. I wonder if 12 foot would be long enough for 3 ppl with fishing gear and hoop nets, which can be bulky

    • @ErickMartinSucre
      @ErickMartinSucre 18 днів тому

      SD365 paired with a Hangkai 12hp is a pair made in heaven. It is perfect for a solo user, maybe one more person with gear. As for 3 people and lots of gear, it will be cramped and slow. SD385 and maybe an 18hp Hangkai might do the trick. The Hangkai is around 80 pounds, while the SD385 is around 120 pounds. That could handle 3 people with gear quite nicely.

    Eric qs please, do you know difference in Triton series vs regular? Is Triton uses thinner material? Ive noticed Triton had slightly lighter weight in the description from saturnrafts?

    • @ErickMartinSucre
      @ErickMartinSucre 18 днів тому

      Triton was the badge used for heat-welded seam models. Now Saturn makes all of its models heat-welded, with the exception of paddle boards and kayaks. The Triton badge is no longer used, but some retailers still have some old stock with it.

    I love the transom wheels, do you launch mostly from boat ramps, or do you beach launch? Hav you thought of using balloon tires.
